Favorite kansas city parks for sessions with MRP
Location… Location… Location…
1. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
The Nelson-Atkins is truly an iconic Kansas City location for photography. With its timeless neoclassical architecture, wide stone steps, and massive front columns, it provides a backdrop that feels both grand and elegant. Walk around the property and you’ll find endless options:
• The famous Shuttlecocks on the lawn (playful and instantly recognizable).
• The glass Bloch Building, with its modern, sleek design and glowing windows at golden hour.
• Lush green lawns and tree-lined walkways, perfect for families or romantic portraits.
This spot works beautifully for engagement sessions, family portraits, or even senior photos because you can get a variety of styles all in one location.
2. National World War I Memorial & Liberty Memorial
Another favorite Kansas City photo location is the World War I Memorial, which has both stunning architecture and sweeping views of downtown.
Some of my go-to photo spots here include:
• The stone walls and historic monument details that give images a dramatic and timeless feel.
• The cityscape view of downtown Kansas City — absolutely unbeatable at sunset.
• The tiled backdrops and arches in the older parts of the museum that add texture and history.
• The pond and fountains below, which bring in softer, more natural elements for variety.
This location is especially great for couples and families who want both a city and a historic vibe in their photos.
3. Hiawassee Garden at Mission House
If you’re looking for something small, charming, and tucked away, Hiawassee Garden at Mission House is a hidden gem. This intimate garden has so much character, with its greenery, flowers, and cozy corners that make sessions feel personal and warm.
It’s the perfect setting for lifestyle family sessions or couples who want something a little more quiet and romantic. I love how it feels almost like your own private garden oasis right in the city.
Choosing Your Kansas City Photography Location
Whether you’re drawn to classic architecture, city views, or quiet garden charm, Kansas City has no shortage of beautiful photography locations. Each of these spots — the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the World War I Memorial, and Hiawassee Garden — offers something different while always giving us the chance to create timeless, meaningful portraits.
If you’re planning your next session, I’d love to help guide you to the perfect location that fits your style.
